The Wisconsin Badgers have kept close contact with a top 2027 recruit early and an impression has been left with the recruit.
Mason Oglesby, a 2027 two-way athlete, holds ten scholarships currently from programs such as Wisconsin, USF, Illinois, Pittsburgh, and Purdue. The talented recruit plays on both sides of the field for New Palestine High School with experience as an outside linebacker and a tight end.
With experience playing both sides of play and the required skill set to do so, Oglesby holds offers as both a tight end and a defensive end. Michigan State defensive ends coach Chad Witt has been someone also keeping a close relationship with the recruit as the Spartans see a future on defense for the recruit. Wisconsin, however, remains split on where to play the recruit and could put Oglesby in a position to play both offense and defense for the program.

Oglesby has remained rather quiet up to this point in regards to recruiting as the process steadily continues to move forward. However, the recruit has been speaking with the Wisconsin Badgers staff nearly everyday since the contact period opened weeks ago.
Wisconsin Badgers Staff Sees Potential on Both Sides of Play for Mason Oglesby
Oglesby has a rather peculiar situation on his hands but also a good one to have as two different Wisconsin Badgers coaches want to coach the recruit. Tight ends coach Nate Letton sees the 6-foot-4-inch athlete as a mismatch of a receiver given his quick release and shocking speed. Outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell, however, sees Oglesby potentially wreaking havoc on offenses off of the edge given his length and field vision.
The conversation between where the recruit plays will be something that potentially impacts the commitment decision of the recruit. Some programs have offered Oglesby as a tight end while other programs have open offers like the Badgers with a chance to play at either position dependent on need. Regardless of where Oglesby plays, however, the recruit is bound to be a force on the field given his early maturity and intelligent play.

On the field, Oglesby is a quick, instinctual player who consistently finds a way to make an impact during each play. Oglesby always finds his way to the football and ends each play within the action which is something that the Wisconsin Badgers staff eyes in defenders in particular. The dominant nature of Oglesby as a tackler and defensive leader has likely brought Wisconsin to a crossroads about whether or not the future in Madison for the recruit would be on offense or defense.
