There are lot of things that can be blamed in Wisconsin Badgers’ exit from the NCAA March Madness at the hands of the BYU Cougars – the slow offensive start, the defense.

However, there is one call many fans can’t let go of, thinking such one call changed the complexion of the game, at least on the side the Badgers.
Wisconsin side were called for a technical at the 15:53 mark of the second half and although the game was still far from over, the Badgers were making their run.
They scored five straight points before that to trim the lead to 52-48. The third quarter started with them down by double digits, with the highest lead being at 13.
The technical foul left many dumbfounded as it was for something that is natural to the game – a reaction to a non-call.

Steven Crowl lost the ball to a Keba Keita at the low-post and players and staff there was a foul involved. The referee did not take their reaction lightly and an instant technical foul against the Badgers was called.
Wisconsin Badgers’ run dampened
The referees gifted the Cougars two free throws plus ball possession. They had four points in total in that span, stretching their lead to eight.
Badgers’ run was ruined and they had to play another catch up.
Talking post-game, Greg Gard said he still does not know what was the technical for.

“The official couldn’t tell me what was said,” he said. “He didn’t know. I don’t think anything was said. Apparently, two assistants stood up. I didn’t know you got technicals for standing up and stomping your feet. If they stomped their feet, I don’t know, but they did.
“I’ve said a lot of things this year and haven’t even come close to getting a technical, and for some reason we had one in that situation. It hasn’t happened all year. I don’t know why it would come out in that regard. But maybe he couldn’t remember what was said.”
