The Wisconsin Badgers have extended a new offer within the 2027 class to a recruit who already has a verbal commitment with another school.
Chance McPike Jr, a 2027 wide receiver from Kentucky, announced a verbal commitment to Sacramento State earlier in the month of July. The receiver is originally from Missouri, but transferred to Paducah Tilghman in Kentucky during the winter. McPike Jr earned his first scholarship last year in August and was offered by then UNLV Rebels offensive coordinator Brennan Marion.
Marion has since taken over the head coaching job at Sacramento State and re-offered the majority of his past recruits with the Rebels. McPike Jr earned a scholarship from Sacramento State in January and announced his commitment early this month after plenty of productive conversations with Marion.
Now, other programs have begun to seek out McPike Jr and offer scholarships which could shift the process for the recruit. The wide receiver recently earned offers from Purdue, Kentucky, Troy, and Eastern Kentucky since the end of the school year. Wisconsin now joins the race to potentially flip the talented wide receiver.
Wisconsin Badgers Offer Scholarship to Sacramento State 2027 Commitment Receiver Chance McPike Jr
The Wisconsin Badgers were keeping close tabs on McPike Jr and chose to extend a scholarship offer to the recruit in the end. The receiver is a talent athlete who shares a similar frame and play-style to current four-star 2026 Badgers commitment Jayden Petit.
The 6-foot-1-inch, 175-pound receiver is a route technician who consistently finds a way to get open in the middle of the field. No matter where the recruit is lined up, creating space is nearly a guarantee for McPike Jr and the receiver rarely wastes open opportunities.
When a defender manages to stick with McPike Jr, the receiver is physical and possesses great focus while trying to make difficult catches. The receiver can make rather complex catches look easy and there is no stopping for McPike Jr either as his eyes are constantly on where the play should move to on the field.

Speed is another area where the receiver excels and speed happens to be perhaps one of the more valuable assets for McPike Jr as well. The receiver is predominantly a route runner but the crisp footwork and speed of McPike Jr makes for a deadly receiver off of the line.
The speed of McPike Jr also allows the receiver to gain more ground on defenders after initially creating space and managing to lose whoever is in coverage.
The Wisconsin Badgers staff saw an early fit in McPike Jr and wide receivers coach Jordan Reid made the decision to extend a scholarship. Reid has been known to be a passionate recruiter who keeps very close tabs on all of the recruits on his board. Reid could be the catalyst that lands a commitment flip for the Wisconsin Badgers much like how Marion managed to secure a verbal commitment.
