Wisconsin Badgers: 2027 Four-Star DL Recaps Recruiting Process – “Coach Whitlow is Awesome”

The Wisconsin Badgers are in desperate need of defensive line talent and the 2027 class will be the first step to improving the room.

The defensive line class in 2027 is set to be a remarkable one with two five-star recruits and 31 four-star recruits currently. The numbers are surely going to change over time, but the talent at the position within the 2027 class is undeniable. One such four-star recruit in the class has impressed the Wisconsin Badgers staff enough to warrant a scholarship offer.

Carter Blattner, an impressive defensive lineman from New Jersey, has been a recruit the Wisconsin staff believes could be a great addition to the program. Blattner stands in at 6-foot-5-inches, and roughly 265-pounds, with an impressive combination of speed and strength on the field. The defensive lineman quickly rose up the New Jersey state rankings and now holds the eighth overall ranking in the state.

When asked about how the recruiting process has been so far, Blattner responded, “So far the recruiting process has been exciting.” Currently, Blattner holds scholarship offers from USC, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Liberty, Wake Forest, and more. Wisconsin is the latest program to offer Blattner after extending a scholarship to the defensive lineman in July.

As the Wisconsin Badgers continue to become close to the recruit, Blattner has some specific factors that standout ahead of others. “The things I’ve been looking for in a program early on is a genuine connection to the coaching staff and a great culture,” stated Blattner.

For Wisconsin, the defensive lineman stated the experiences with the program have been ‘great’ and that the experiences with coach EJ Whitlow have been ‘awesome’ to date. Blattner is considering booking a visit but stated, “I’m not sure yet where I will be visiting, it all depends on how the rest of the summer goes.”

With the recruiting process continuing to heat up for Blattner, USC has become an early program to watch and one that will rival Wisconsin. The Trojans were able to see the defensive lineman up close and the staff left the experience impressed, having since kept close contact with the talented recruit.

The Trojans appear to be all-in on Blattner which could cause the race for a commitment to become rather difficult for the Badgers and others. Rutgers, Michigan, and Ohio State have also been involved and all have hosted Blattner for a visit already. Michigan and Ohio State have not extended scholarship to the defensive lineman yet, but could do so in the near future after further evaluation of the class.

Wisconsin gained ground with a scholarship offer, but the Badgers are behind and coach Whitlow has plenty to make up for in order to place the program into a position to land a future commitment.
