Willy Adames’ $182 Million Franchise Record Deal Could Be Topped By His Former Teammate

Willy Adames just cashed in big with the San Francisco Giants, agreeing to a seven-year, $182 million contract. This deal marks the largest in franchise history, surpassing the previous record of $167 million set by current President of Baseball Operations, Buster Posey.

During September 2024, the Giants and third baseman Matt Chapman agreed to a six year, $151 dollar extension.  San Francisco now has Willy Adames locked up for the next seven years.  This will give them a formidable duo on the left side of the infield for years to come.

Willy Adames has a chance to do something no San Francisco Giants player has done since 2004

Last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, Willy Adames hit a career-high 32 home runs, surpassing his previous best of 31 set in 2022. If Adames can top 30 home runs again in a Giants uniform, he would become the first player to do so since Barry Bonds in 2004.  Brandon Belt had previously been the closest to doing so, but he fell one home run short in 2021.

As exciting as Willy Adames’ record-setting deal is, it may not last long. The Giants are reportedly eyeing Adames’ former teammate, Corbin Burnes, and his deal is expected to exceed Adames’ contract. San Francisco just saw Blake Snell sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers, so targeting Corbin Burnes to bolster their starting pitching staff could very likely be their next priority.
