Willy Adames has signed a massive seven year, $182 million contract with the San Francisco Giants. The 29 year old has worn #27 throughout his entire career, but he leaked on his Instagram that a change is in order. Here is why and what number he will be wearing.
#27 is a retired number by the San Francisco Giants
One retired number in the Giants organization is #27. This number was retired in honor of Juan Marichal. The pitcher is San Francisco’s franchise leader in complete games (244), shutouts (52), innings (3,443) and strikeouts (2,281).
What number will Willy Adames be wearing with the San Francisco Giants?
Willy Adames leaked on his Instagram that he will be wearing #2. This means that Blake Sabol will be in need of a new number. When Adames was with the Milwaukee Brewers, Brice Turang switched from #0 to #2 after Luis Urias departed in which that number has personal/family ties to Turang.
Looks like Willy Adames will wear #2 with the San Francisco Giants. Not surprised given how BIG of a Derek Jeter fan he is. pic.twitter.com/zs21ON18vR

When Willy Adames was with the Milwaukee Brewers, he got to meet his childhood hero Derek Jeter, who also wore #2
In September of 2023, Willy Adames got to meet Derek Jeter when the Milwaukee Brewers played a series against the New York Yankees. Adames was found grinning from ear to ear during the interaction and afterwards said he couldn’t even remember what Jeter told him because he was so excited.
Adames said following that interaction, “That’s a moment I’ve been dreaming about since I was a kid. You meet your idol, the guy that you admire since you were little, the guy you want to be like. For me to finally have that, it’s incredible. I don’t even know how to describe it.”
