The names Matt Hasselback and Al Harris will forever be entwined in Packers lore. As Hasselback has transitioned into a media career, it still is something that follows him. This week, Hasselback was on the Pat McAfee show talking about the week 3 Monday night matchup between the Cowboys and Giants. Al Harris is currently an assistant secondary coach for the Cowboys. Matt Hasselback had a hilarious comment on Al Harris during the show.
Let’s Relive The Moment
Before we get to the comment, let’s relive the moment. On a cold January afternoon in 2004 the Packers and the Seahawks faced off. Matt Hasselback led a 7 play 67 yard drive to tie the game up at 27 and send the game into overtime. Hasselback called heads and when the coin toss came up heads he said the iconic line, “We want the ball and we’re gonna score.” The refs microphone picked up everything for all to hear. In the second possession of overtime, Matt Hasselback floated a short ball to the left side that Al Harris jumped in front of, running it back 52 yards for the score and the win. It is one of the top moments in NFL history. NFL.com ranked it as no. 86 on their top 100 plays.

Okay now that the wonderful trip down memory lane is done, let’s get the comments. Hasselback is talking about how the Cowboys often jump routes and he credits it to the coaching. He referenced Al Harris being an assistant secondary coach and commented, “Al Harris has been known to jump some routes.” This is such a fun moment from the show. I’m sure there was some embarrassment from this moment but clearly Hasselback is past it. He now can have some fun with the moment and turn it into great content.
It always seems like the Pat McAfee show gets the best out of players. Aaron Rodgers has had some great interviews on the show. Other players have had some great sound bites as well. Matt Hasselback’s comments on Al Harris is another great moment from the show.
