The Milwaukee Brewers offense was very efficient during the 2024 MLB season. One of the best players in the Brewers lineup, Willy Adames, left the team in free agency to sign with the San Francisco Giants.
Milwaukee has yet to find an Adames replacement for 2025, but they will need to find offensive production from other resources now that he is gone. One player who has yet to be signed this offseason is J.D. Martinez.
Milwaukee Brewers Urged To Sign J.D. Martinez In MLB Free Agency
There is no doubt that the Brewers will need to find more offensive production before the start of the 2025 MLB season. One player that the Milwaukee Brewers should consider signing is J.D. Martinez. He played in 120 games last season with the New York Mets.
Martinez had a .235 batting average with 16 home runs and 69 RBIs, along with an .320 on-base percentage. Patrick McAvoy of sportsillustrated.com thinks that the Milwaukee Brewers should make a push for J.D. Martinez. McAvoy said:
“The Milwaukee Brewers could use one more slugger before Spring Training gets here.
Milwaukee has a lot of talent but has to find a way to replace Willy Adames‘ 32 home runs and 112 RBIs from last season. The Brewers aren’t going to make a splashy, expensive addition at this point, but there are a handful of options that could help with this issue.
One who should be considered above all else is six-time All-Star JD Martinez. He is 37 years old so he won’t cost much at this point in his career but he is still a capable hitter. He had 16 home runs and 69 RBIs in 2024 with the New York Mets. The season before he was an All-Star with the Los Angeles Dodgers when he hit 33 home runs and drove in 103 runs.
Martinez is projected to get a one-year, $9.5 million deal this offseason by Spotrac. If the Brewers want to add a boost at designated hitter, Martinez should be the guy. He’s out there now and is available in free agency.”
Signing Martinez to that deal would be reasonable for the Milwaukee Brewers. He is 37 years old. There is also a chance that J.D. Martinez could retire before the start of the 2025 MLB season.
Christian Yelich Moving To DH Potentially
If the Milwaukee Brewers were to sign J.D. Martinez, he would probably be the designated hitter for the 2025 season. One player who they planned on moving to DH next season is Christian Yelich. With a loaded outfield the Brewers have, this is probably the best option for the franchise.
However, if they did sign Martinez, there is a great chance that Yelich could be traded, but he would have to waive his no-trade clause. Even if they don’t sign J.D. Martinez, the Brewers must add more quality players to the team before the 2025 MLB season begins also.
