In 2015, the Milwaukee Brewers made a blockbuster trade that sent Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to the Houston Astros in exchange for Josh Hader, Brett Phillips, Domingo Santana, and Adrian Houser. Of this group, Houser was retained by the Brew Crew the longest, but most recently has signed with the Texas Rangers.
Reviewing Adrian Houser’s career with the Milwaukee Brewers
After being acquired in 2015, Adrian Houser received limited opportunities in the big leagues during his first few seasons. He took on a much more significant role in 2019, when he split time as a starter and reliever, finishing the campaign with 111 innings pitched and a 3.72 ERA. Following that season, he was primarily used as a starter, where he proved to be an effective innings eater. 2021 was by far his most impressive season, as he posted a 3.22 ERA across 22 starts and threw the team’s first complete game shutout since Kyle Lohse did so in 2014.
Adrian Houser was traded by the Milwaukee Brewers prior to the start of the 2024 season
Last winter executives Matt Arnold and David Stearns, who formerly worked together in Milwaukee, agreed to a deal that sent Adrian Houser and Tyrone Taylor to the New York Mets in exchange for pitching prospect Coleman Crow. Adrian Houser ended up being released in late July after posting a 5.84 ERA across 69 innings pitched. He had a few stints in both the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles farm system afterwards, but elected free agency at seasons end.
Adrian Houser has signed a contract with the Texas Rangers
According to Aram Leighton of Just Baseball, the Rangers and Adrian Houser have agreed to a MiLB contract that does include an invite to big league camp. The Rangers starting rotation was decimated by injury last year and several key pieces of their 2024 bullpen are currently free agents. This signing is great for Houser as the odds of him getting another opportunity in the big leagues are pretty good.
