The St. John’s Red Storm entering Tuesday night understood the importance of this big week in the Big East Conference with having to face the Marquette Golden Eagles and the #19 UCONN Huskies this upcoming Friday night. St. John’s was the 12th-ranked team in the nation and Marquette was the #11th-ranked team in the nation.
The St. John’s Red Storm defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles at Madison Square Garden by a final score of 7-64. With the win for St. John’s, they improved to 20-3 overall on the season and 11-1 in Big East Conference play. As for Marquette, they dropped to 18-5 overall and 9-3 in Big East Conference play.

St. John’s is having its best college basketball season in a very long time. Head coach Rick Pitino should be proud of what is transpiring and so should this fanbase. It will be interesting to see how they will continue to play at this high level. The Red Storm is no doubt one of the biggest stories in college basketball this season and also in the Big East Conference. St. John’s could be a very dangerous team in March Madness this season.
Game Stats
Three players scored in double figures for St. John’s against Marquette. Kadary Richmond is continuing to make his case for potential Big East Player Of the Year. He scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and recorded eight assists. R.J. Luis Jr. recorded a double-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and recorded three assists.
Zuby Ejiofor scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. He also recorded one assist in the game. The St. John’s Red Storm outrebounded the Marquette Golden Eagles in this game and it was one of the reasons why they won this game. Head coach Rick Pitino was not thrilled with the 17-of-31 free throw shooting in the game, but they did enough to win this game. We will see how they do on the road on Friday night against the UCONN Huskies also.
