The Wisconsin Badgers football program is changing
It’s been a whirlwind last 24 hours for the Wisconsin Badgers football program. The team narrowly lost to rival Minnesota after failing to convert their final offensive drive. Fans grumbled about interim head coach Jim Leonhard’s prospects as the next likely permanent head coach. Early Sunday morning, reports revealed Jim Leonhard would not be Paul Chryst’s permanent successor. That job would go to Luke Fickell.
Leonhard and his players seemed shocked by the move. It might have caught some Badgers recruits off guard as well. Wisconsin had seen a few recruits decommit this season as change circled the program after Chryst’s firing. One decommit cane right after Fickell was named as the head coach.
According to Benjamin Worgull with The Badger Nation, four-star offensive lineman Christopher Terek is now committing to Notre Dame. Terek announced the change one minute after the Badgers made Fickell their official head coach.

Terek is now going to the program where their head coach, Marcus Freeman, is familiar with Fickell. Freeman was Fickell’s defensive coordinator at Cincinnati before he took the Notre Dame defensive coordination job for the 2021 season. After Brian Kelly left for LSU, Freeman was named Notre Dame’s head coach.
Such is life in the current landscape of college football—constant change and surprise. One would assume the recruiting lists of Wisconsin and Cincinnati will look different in the next month than they had all season. Fickell will likely bring over to Wisconsin some Cincinnati players from the transfer portal and their recruiting board.

Didn’t UW have to buy out the remainder of Finkels contract from Cincinnati? Most coaches contracts include a clause that if a coach leaves before his contract is up he and or the new school he’s going to has to buy out the remainder of his contract from his former school.
