The Green Bay Packers manhandled the Chicago Bears on Sunday. While the score was close at halftime, the Packers came out and dominated the second half. Jordan Love was the talk of the game but the real story was the pass rush. According to PFF, the pass rush stats may have been the reason for the lopsided victory.
Green Bay Packers Pass Rush Wins The Day
According to PFF, the Packers created 35 pressures on the day. That was just one behind the Dallas Cowboys for the most on Sunday. Justin Fields was constantly under pressure and while he escaped the pocket sometimes, the Packers did a good job corraling the offense. By way of contrast, the Bears only had 6 pressures which translates to a 10% pressure rate. That is the lowest mark since 2021 meaning the Bears were historically bad on the defensive line. No matter who is at quarterback, better protection usually leads to better results. Fields might be good but his line never gives him any time.
Great To See
It wasn’t just one person. Devonte Wyatt looked amazing next to Kenny Clark. Rashan Gary caused problems in very limited snaps. Lukas Van Ness picked up his first career sack and Preston Smith and Kingsley Enagbare looked consistent as ever. If this defense can be a top-ten unit, this team could be very scary. Even if the offense stalls, the fact that the defense can limit points and kill drives with the pass rush automatically puts them in any game.
It’s just one game and it is against a team that probably isn’t going to be very good. However, the early returns on the Green Bay Packers pass rush look very good and should help them win a lot of games in 2023.
