The Packers have built a roster with a potentially lengthy Super Bowl window.
And, at least according to one former NFL general manager, Green Bay has the pieces in place to win the Super Bowl this season.
“Yeah, they can,” former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said recently on ESPN’s Get Up, of the Packers’ chances of winning the Super Bowl. “Ideally they’d be playing in conditions that look more [snowy] than indoors in Minnesota or Detroit.
“But, overall for the season, [the Packers] are seventh in defensive efficiency, but, they’re first on third-down opponent conversions and to me, it goes back to rushing the passer which they’re doing with Rashan Gary and a host of others. And, they can turn the ball over, Xavier McKinney has seven interceptions. When you think about Jeff Hafley, the first-year coordinator, goes to the NFL to take this position. He’s done a great job, and they’re doing better … The complementary piece of this defense makes them a legitimate Super Bowl conteder.”
While the Packers’ offense, and Love along with running back Josh Jacobs and a host of young explosive receivers garner much of the praise for Green Bay’s torrid stretch of play entering the last two weeks, Hafley’s defense has emerged as a driving force.
Sunday against the Vikings, the Packers have the opportunity to stop their division rival’s chances of winning the No. 1 seed, but, the way Green Bay is needing they themselves seem to be playing the style of football that can win anytime, anywhere, against anyone.
