The Packers aren’t going to be able to clinch a playoff berth on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, but Green Bay has the pieces in place to make a lengthy postseason run when the playoffs do kickoff next month.
Thanks in large part to quarterback Jordan Love’s rapid development, marquee contributions from free-agent pickup Xavier McKinney on defense, and ascending young playmakers on both sides of the football, the Packers have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations once the postseason gets underway.
With that in mind, Bleacher Report analyst Brad Gagnon put together the reason that every NFC contender could wind up being the one hoisting the Lombardi Trophy to cap Super Bowl Sunday, and makes a compelling case for Love and the Packers returning home to Titletown with some new hardware.
“This team has a top-10 scoring offense,” Gagnon writes for B/R. “And defense as well as a quarterback who routinely exhibits elite ability. Love appears to be hitting another late-season stride. If he can stay on track, the Pack are a factor.”
Love seems to be ascending at precisely the right time for Green Bay.
Through the past three weeks, Love has tossed five touchdown passes, without throwing an interception, while passing for 643 yards in three straight Packers wins.
Green Bay also seems to be getting healthy when they need to most, with signs pointing to the likes of rookie linebacker Edgerinn Cooper, Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, and tight end Luke Musgrave all eyeing returns in the coming weeks.
If the Packers’ hot streak continues, and Love keeps playing at his recent torrid pace, this could wind up being the team that nobody in the NFC wants to face off against in the playoffs, and who knows how high Green Bay’s ceiling is from there.
