The Green Bay Packers, in a lot of ways, shocked the NFL world last season.
Arriving in the NFL Playoffs, perhaps a year ahead of schedule and in Jordan Love’s first season as the Packers’ starting quarterback, Green Bay toppled the Dallas Cowboys in blowout fashion on Wild Card Weekend. While Green Bay’s Cinderella run came to an end the following week in the NFC Divisional Playoffs against the eventual conference champion San Francisco 49ers, the foundation for this group was set.
Fast forward to Sunday’s 4:30 p.m. kickoff against the NFC East Champion Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in this year’s NFC Wild Card round, and here are some eery similarities between this team and last.
NFL Insider Ed Werder pointed out that the 2023 and 2024 Packers teams have a lot in common, as Green Bay prepares to take on Philadelphia.
“Last year,” Werder wrote on X on Tuesday. “The Packers became the first seven seed to win against a No. 2 seed when they eliminated Dallas. This season’s Packers are the youngest in the NFL for the second straight season at 25.1.”
The fact that general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers have been able to be so successful while building such a young roster is encouraging for Green Bay’s future as a consistent contender around Love. Green Bay would also love nothing more than to be able to make a postseason run, for the second consecutive year.
