The Pakers‘ wide receiving corps in the midst of a bit of an identity crisis.
Sunday’s 27-25 loss revealed some of the issues plaguing quarterback Jordan Love, but, Green Bay’s wide receiving corps has also struggled mightily to maintain a consistently high level of play.
Entering Week 18, the Packers are the runaway leaders in dropped pass percentage, a problem Green Bay needs to figure out before the playoffs kick off next weekend.
Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed is one of those receivers struggling mightily with dropped passes.
Reed enters Week 18 with the third-highest drop rate in the NFL, at 15.9 percent.
Packers Need Much More Jayden Reed
Reed is also the Packers’ leading receiver, with 73 catches for 809 yards and six touchdowns. Yet, in key spots of critical games, the Packers have struggled to consistently get Reed the football.
That’s a problem Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich hopes to rectify, in short order.
“You’re always trying to get him the ball,” Stenavich told reporters this week. “He’s one of those guys who can, as you’ve seen, he can make a lot of special plays.”
It’s easy to see why the Packers would like to make a concerted effort to make Reed a focal point of the passing game moving forward.
After all, as Pro Football Focus points put, Love has produced a 136.2 passer rating when targeting Reed, whose average depth of target is a whopping 8.2 yards. Likewise, only seven other receivers across the league average more yards after the catch per reception than Reed’s 15.3.
Whether Stenavich and Love can make good on the commitment to feature Reed in the postseason remains to be seen, but, his impact throughout the 2024 campaign is undeniable.
