Josh Jacobs hasn’t even been a Packer for a full season, but seems to understand what it takes to be successful in the NFC North, and to make a run at representing the NFC in the Super Bowl.
After falling to the Minnesota Vikings in heartbreaking fashion, 27-25, on Sunday afternoon, the Packers will finish the season winless against the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Vikings, who are primed to open the postseason as three of the top-five seeds when the playoffs kickoff in a couple of weeks.
Worse, the Packers’ only win to date within the division is over the last-place Chicago Bears, whom they will have the opportunity to complete the season sweep against in Week 18.
Yet, Jacobs believes that winning the division that is primed to send three teams to the postseason is a bigger priority in Minnesota and Detroit than it is right now in Green Bay.
“Since I’ve been here,” Jacobs told reporters at US Bank Stadium, following Sunday’s game. “It was always talk about the Super Bowl and winning the North. That’s definitely something we don’t take a certain type of way. It’s definitely a weird feeling in our mouths or whatever.”
Defensive coordinator Brian Flores and the Vikings stonewalled Jacobs, who was held to just 69 yards and a touchdown while losing a fumble on the Packers’ first possession of the game.
Green Bay may get another crack at the Vikings or Lions during the postseason, but will need dramatically more from Jacobs, quarterback Jordan Love, and the rest of the offense if the Packers are going to change the narrative within the division.
