Packers running back Josh Jacobs is in the midst of one of the most dominant seasons of his career, in his first year in Green Bay, and made sure to brighten his offensive line’s holiday season.
Jacobs, who has rattled off 30 explosive runs of 10 yards or more, which is fifth-most in the NFL, gave his offensive linemen diamond-studded jersey numbers to wear as Christmas presents and a token of his appreciation for their efforts upfront.
“It was just something different,” Jacobs told reporters this week, of his pricey gift. “I felt like in the past, I’ve done a lot of different things. So, I wanted to do something different this year and I felt like the guys, we’re a closer group, and a lot of guys were talking about it like ‘they’ve never had one and always wanted to get one,’ so, I just tied it all into Christmas.”
While Jacobs has a track record as one of the most explosive running backs in the league, his presence has elevated the Packers’ offense significantly.
Ahead of Week 17 against the Minnesota Vikings, Jacobs has already rushed for 1,216 yards and 13 touchdowns. As Pro Football Focus points out, Jacobs has forced 64 missed tackles while averaging 3.42 yards after contact per rushing attempt.
Even though he’s putting up elite numbers, as a fringe NFL Offensive Player of The Year candidate, Jacobs made sure that he took care of his linemen who have paved the way this season.
