As Green Bay Packers star Jordan Love works to elevate his game in 2025, he’s focusing on expanding his skill set. During training camp, Love has been addressing key areas of improvement, and offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich hinted that a lesser-seen part of the quarterback’s arsenal will play a much bigger role this season.
Love sat out two full games with a sprained MCL in Weeks 2 and 3 and missed stretches of two others because of groin and elbow injuries in Weeks 8 and 18. He often played while banged up, too. Still, for someone with his mobility, his rushing production remained underwhelming—he tied for 34th in rushing yards (83) and ranked 30th in attempts (25) among quarterbacks, according to TruMedia.

When asked last week if he wanted Love to use his legs more often, offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich didn’t hesitate. “Absolutely,” he told the Athletic. “That’s a major weapon, and Jordan has the ability to create big plays downfield. We definitely encourage that.”
If Love begins relying on his legs more, both to improvise passing opportunities and to scramble on his own, it could bring a new element to Green Bay’s offense. The Packers probably will not call designed quarterback runs for him the way they might for Malik Willis, but fans should expect Love to be more active as a runner in 2025 for several reasons.
Jordan Love evolving for the Packers

Jordan Love wasn’t consistently a full participant in practice until roughly halfway through last season. Additionally, he plans to be more intentional about running the ball himself rather than immediately settling for checkdowns when his first reads are unclear.
As Love showcases his skills during the Packers’ preseason, fans should pay close attention to how the Utah State product uses his mobility to keep plays alive. Still, as he noted, it’s all about recognizing the right moments to take off. Quarterbacks need to maintain downfield vision even when the pocket breaks down, rather than immediately fleeing under pressure. Former Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements often highlighted how staying focused on receivers can transform modest runs into explosive off-script passes.

Even if Jordan Love opts to extend plays with his arm rather than scramble, it’s safe to expect more than 25 rushing attempts from the third-year starter if he remains healthy in 2025. After posting 83 rushing yards last season and 247 the year before, he has a real shot to surpass both totals when the Packers kick off the season on Sunday, Sept. 7, against the Detroit Lions.
