The Green Bay Packers are by and large playing the best football of their season, as the closing stretch kicks into gear, with some legitimate optimism that Matt LaFleur’s team can make a legitimate run at a Super Bowl appearance from the NFC.
However, even for as well as franchise quarterback Jordan Love is playing and despite Jayden Reed’s emergence as the Packers’ leading receiver, some cracks could be forming for Green Bay’s offense.
As NFL Reporter Mike Tanier points out, the Packers have dropped 28 passes through the first 13 games of this season. To this point, only the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants have been charged with more dropped passes, and neither of those franchises are coming close to even sniffing the postseason.
While dropped passes should be a cause for concern and a point of emphasis for head coach Matt LaFleur and staff down the closing stretch of this season, it is worth pointing out that Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs won a Super Bowl in 2023 despite boasting a receiving corps that led the league in dropped passes.
As Tanier explains, as of now, the Packers have a 21.6% chance of reaching the NFC Championship Game and a 9.2% chance of reaching the Super Bowl.
If Love, Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Christian Watson, Tucker Kraft, and potentially Luke Musgraves and Romeo Doubs (if they can return from injury in the near future) can get on the same page and cut down on the dropped passes and missed opportunities, Green Bay is undoubtedly going to raise its postseason ceiling, as a result.
