The Packers’ defense threw a sack party against Geno Smith, later Sam Howell, and the Seattle Seahawks as the driving force behind a convincing 30-13 victory that gives Green Bay hope of potentially securing the No. 1 seed and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.
While the road to the Super Bowl going through frozen Lambeau may be a long shot, if the Packers’ defense can replicate and even build on its dominant showing in Seattle, anything is on the table for head coach Matt LaFleur’s team this season.
That’s especially true thanks to Green Bay’s pass rush, which had one of the most dominant performances against the Seahawks not just of its season but of any defense across the league throughout the 2024 campaign.
Not only did the Pacers sack Smith and Howell seven times, but as Matt Schneiderman points out, the Packers posted a 45.2 team pressure rate on Sunday night had been 41.7 percent. Similarly, the Packers’ sack percentage was a 17.5 against the Seahawks, obliterating the previous high-water mark across the league which had been 9.4 percent.
Rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper’s emergence was a revelation for the Packers, not just because of his first career interception coming at a timely moment inside the final 10 minutes of play. But, Cooper also logged one sack, two quarterback hits and five total tackles in a stellar performance.
If the Packers can maintain their relentless pass rush in the coming weeks, Green Bay could be a team that makes some noise this postseason.
