Packers Climbing Preseason Power Rankings as 2025 Nears

The Packers have some fairly legitimate concerns as the 2025 season approaches, but the kind of young talent in place across the roster creates plenty of optimism that Green Bay can make a major step.

Thanks to a bolstered supporting cast around quarterback Jordan Love and another year of continuity in defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s scheme, the Packers are considered a fringe Super Bowl contender out of the NFC, plenty capable of closing the gap both on the Detroit Lions in the NFC North and the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles.

NFL Media analyst Eric Edholm put together his preseason power rankings, with the Packers checking in at No. 8 in the league, up one spot from his previous rankings.

“Left tackle seems to be up in the air,” Edholm writes for NFL Media. “With Jordan Morgan attempting to unseat Rasheed Walker. The early returns on the wide receiver room appear to be good, with first-rounder Matthew Golden making a strong first impression. Dropped passes were a huge problem for the Packers a year ago, and Jordan Love is entering a critical season where he needs the operation around him to be as clean as possible. If those two areas are improved, it’s easy to see the Packers being a tough out. Defensively, I am less sure about them. The front seven will be decent — at the very worst — but there are some holes to patch in the secondary. That area worries me a little bit.”

While Edholm lists the Packers as the fifth-best team in the NFC, the concerns around dropped passes, a lackluster and inconsistent pass rush combined with concerns in the secondary, could prove to be Green Bay’s kryptonite.

However, if Love makes major strides and Golden becomes the instant-impact weapon the Packers hope at receiver, Green Bay will be among the toughest outs in the NFL this season.
