The Green Bay Packers‘ hopes of making a lengthy playoff run were dealt a major blow, and one of the franchise’s brightest young stars’ future was cast in doubt Monday when it was revealed wide receiver Christian Watson suffered a torn ACL.
Watson went down in Sunday’s heartbreaking 27-25 loss to the Chicago Bears in the regular season finale at Lambeau Field, and is not only out for this season but could potentially miss the 2025 campaign, as well, depending on this recovery and rehab timeline.
“It’s a big-time loss,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters Monday. “Just his presence on the field alone. He’s so versatile in his ability to play multiple positions. You can put him at the X, the F, the Z. … There’s not many built like him around the league.”
Watson’s versatility shone through this season, catching nine passes for a career-high 620 yards and two touchdowns, despite having to work his way back from an injury in the opposite knee that he hurt in Week 18.
The Packers are going to need to figure out a way to make up for Watson’s lost production in quarterback Love’s receiving corps in time for Sunday’s playoff showdown against the No. 2 seed Philadelphia Eagles.
