The Green Bay Packers are chasing their fifth Vince Lombardi Trophy as they look to end a 15-year championship drought this season. To strengthen the roster, they traded for offensive tackle Darian Kinnard from the reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia completed the deal just hours after bringing in quarterback Sam Howell.

Kinnard, 25, entered the league as a fifth-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022. He saw action in one game that year before being waived ahead of the 2023 season. He spent that year on Kansas City’s practice squad and later signed a reserve/futures deal with the Eagles in early 2024.
With Philadelphia, he appeared in two games, starting once in a Week 18 win over the New York Giants, and has mostly lined up at right tackle in his young career. Kinnard already owns three Super Bowl rings, two from his time with the Chiefs and another with the Eagles. Now the Packers, who have a strong track record of developing young offensive linemen, will look to shape his potential.
Darian Kinnard joining the Packers

“Darian Kinnard is one of only two players along with Ken Norton Jr. to win three consecutive Super Bowls. Kinnard won Super Bowls LVII and LVIII as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, then Super Bowl LIX as a member of the Eagles. Now he will attempt to four-peat with the Packers, as he brings them the ability to play guard or tackle,” Adam Schefter added in a post in X (formerly Twitter).

Head coach Matt LaFleur gains another veteran presence with championship pedigree while also shoring up pass protection for Jordan Love. LaFleur highlighted the ongoing battle at left tackle during the preseason, and Kinnard steps in as a new challenger for that role. Philadelphia, on the other hand, secures a 2027 sixth-round draft pick in the exchange, finalizing the deal long before November’s NFL trade deadline.

Kinnard arrives primarily as a depth addition, with the Packers needing to set their 53-man roster by Wednesday like the rest of the league. He is expected to serve as a swing option on the offensive line, offering versatility at both guard and tackle.
General manager Howie Roseman continues to make small adjustments, with the Eagles adding Fred Johnson and parting ways with Kinnard as the latest moves. These transactions mark the team’s third and fourth trades on Sunday alone, and their fourth and fifth over the past three weeks. Earlier that day, Philadelphia landed quarterback Sam Howell from the Minnesota Vikings, while previous deals brought in wide receiver John Metchie III from the Houston Texans on August 17 and cornerback Jakorian Bennett on August 4.
