Nyzier Fourqurean once preached patience about the Wisconsin Badgers football and head coach Luke Fickell but when it comes to the NCAA and their rules on eligibility, he can’t do that.
The cornerback is suing the intercollegiate athletics governing body for two main reasons – his eligibility clock which he believed was shortened and sabotaging his opportunity to earn through his name, image, and likeness.
“From what I heard, we have a very strong case,” Fourqurean said according to New York Times.
“Obviously, it’s not the exact same as [Pavia’s]. But we didn’t get compensated at the Division II level and Division III levels. It’s pretty similar to the juco situation when it comes to economically.”
Fourqurean spent two years in Division II program Grand Valley State before joining the Badgers.
The problem is his years with them counted in Division I, leaving him with just one more year of eligibility.
His case is similar to that of Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia he mentioned above.
The CUSA Offensive Player of the Year sued the NCAA for a similar case and won it, earning himself an additional year of eligibility through a blanket waiver.
Nyzier Fourqurean vows to not let NCAA lawsuit be a distraction
Although there is an urgent matter at hand for Fourqurean, he promises that he will stick to his goal for the Badgers this new season.
Previously, he said that the team is trending in the right direction.
“I think that’s the biggest thing that I want fans to know that, to believe in coach Fickell and what they have going on over there, in the direction that he has the team going.”
As for the case against NCAA, his focus remains intact.
“I’ve just been handling my own part training for the pro day like I don’t have the extra year and I’ve kind of let my agent, the lawyers and Wisconsin do this on the back end so I could just focus on what I have at hand,” he said.
“If it is to get denied, then it is what it is and I’m going to just go on like I’ve been planning to go on. But we’re obviously going to exercise our rights and exercise and exhaust these things.”
