Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy recently gave an interview expressing his hopes for the New York Jets season. Spoiler, he doesn’t want them to have great success this season.
The Packers and Jets will be tied together for at least this season after the Aaron Rodgers trade in April. The Packers and Jets could very well be forced to renegotiate the terms of their trade agreement if the Jets want to make a trade this season with either the first or second-round pick in the 2024 draft.
Murphy was a guest on the 97.3 The Game recently. He gave an animated response when talking about how he wanted the Jets’ season to go this year. Murphy said he hopes the Jets have a poor win/loss outcome so the Packers can get a better pick in the 2024 draft.
The Green Bay Packers need Aaron Rodgers to play 65 percent

“Sixty-five percent,” Murphy said as he pumped his fists and let out a chuckle. “I mean, honestly, I hope everything goes well. I want [Rodgers] to pay 65 percent. But it would be really good if the Jets had a bad year.”

The New York Jets need to have a poor season
Murphy’s comments reflect precisely what the Packers fan base is hoping for. The Packers need Rodgers to play at least 65 percent of the Jets’ offensive snaps so Green Bay can claim New York’s first-round pick next year. They also need the Jets to lose as many games as possible so the Packers get the highest potential draft pick in either the first or second round.
The Packers can’t control how the Jets do this season. They traded Rodgers, and now they must focus on their present with Jordan Love under center this year. A lot of talk about who won the trade between the Packers and Jets will be determined by which team is lower in the draft order next April.
