Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs didn’t practice Thursday and was absent Friday because he’s unhappy about his opportunities in the passing game according to Sports Illustrated. Doubs was at home when team officials arrived to check on him after failing to show up for Thursday’s practice.
Packers head coach Matt Lafleur previously said it’s a “day-to-day personal thing.” Doubs is listed as doubtful to play on Sunday against the Rams.
WR Romeo Doubs upset about lack of touches he has received in the Packers offense
So far this year Romeo Doubs is tied for the second most catches with 12 on the third most targets with 20 while Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks both have 22. Doubs has the second most yards on the team by a decent margin with 130 which only trails Jayden Reed who leads the Packers with 336.
The Packers are deep at wide receiver and typically spread the ball around. Two of the four games Malik Willis played which altered the gameplan to some degree. Doubs is good but it is hard to argue that Jayden Reed being featured due to his success so far this season.
Packers WR Romeo’s eventful 2023 NFL season
Romeo Doubs had 59 receptions last year for 674 yards receiving. Doubs had seven touchdowns in the redzone last season, which was fourth most in the NFL. Three of his six receptions in the redzone in 2022 were touchdowns.
With two magnificent playoff games to close last year (his first career 100-yard game came vs. Dallas, and he went for over 200 yards against San Francisco, you would think that Doubs was on course to break out at least a little bit this season. Through four games, though, Doubs has just 12 receptions for 169 yards and no touchdowns. WR Romeo Doubs contract situation in Green Bay
Packers wide receivers Doubs and Chrisitan Watson are in their third seasons. Not necessarily on the front burner of their minds, but second contracts will be coming, whether that’s an in-season extension next year or in free agency after next season.
Both Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs would thus leave some combination of Bo Melton and Malik Heath as the No. 3 WR behind Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks.
