MLB Winter Meetings are right around the corner. This year, baseball minds will gather from December 8-12 in Dallas, Texas. The Milwaukee Brewers are unlikely to steal any of the major headlines from the signings or trades that occur during this event, but there is a young, controllable infielder from the Kansas City Royals who is a trade candidate, and he would fit in nicely with the Brew Crew.
24 year old Kansas City Royals infielder Maikel Garcia has generated trade interest
According to Mark Feinsand at MLB.com, the Royals have received interest from other clubs regarding Maikel Garcia’s availability. Kansas City acquiring infielder Jonathan India via trade likely played a large factor in this as Garcia is versatile defensively, has upside at the plate, and is under team control through the 2029 season.
Maikel Garcia would be a great fit on the Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers love baseball players that can move around defensively. Maikel Garcia can do just that as he has played third base, shortstop, second base, and outfield throughout his career. Milwaukee would likely consider utilizing him as a third baseman so that Joey Ortiz can slide over to shortstop and platinum glove award winning second baseman Brice Turang can stay put.
Another strength that Maikel Garcia has is speed. A season ago he stole 37 bases and the year before that 23. He also has picked up more than 50 RBI’s each of the last two seasons as well as 20 or more doubles.
What would it take for the Brewers and Royals to get a deal done?
A trade between two contending organizations in Milwaukee and Kansas City involving Maikel Garcia is tricky to predict. On one side, the Brewers would receive an every day third baseman while the Royals would be losing theirs. Additional moves would have to be made by Kansas City in order to replace the production they would be losing.
It’s possible that since the Royals parted ways with starting pitcher Brady Singer that they would be open to receiving a rotation piece in return. Aaron Civale is the Brewers most experienced arm that may be available via trade, but that is a position Milwaukee is currently thin in.
A lot can happen over Winter Meetings in a short period of time. It will be interesting to see if Maikel Garcia is dealt, or if the Royals hang onto him.
