The Milwaukee Brewers retooled their bullpen during the off-season. Several pitchers including Brent Suter, Brad Boxberger, Taylor Rogers, Trevor Gott, and Justin Topa all joined new organizations. One of those players will now be on the move again as they were involved in a trade between the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners.
On Monday, July 3 the Seattle Mariners managed to find a trade partner for Chris Flexen. He was DFA’d last week after posting a 7.71 ERA in 42 innings and a 1.86 WHIP. A big contributing factor as to why moving him proved difficult is because of the fact that he is owed $4 million yet this season.
For the New York Mets $4 million is pocket change, but in being willing to trade for him they asked for former Brewers journeyman Trevor Gott as well. Seattle received Zach Muckenhirn in this trade.
Former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Trevor Gott was traded to the New York Mets in a salary dump trade from the Seattle Mariners.
After this trade was announced the Mets elected to immediately designate Chris Flexen. This essentially means that the Mariners traded away $4 million in payroll and Trevor Gott in exchange for a left-handed pitcher who is not a sure thing and has very little major league experience.
Trevor Gott will now join a Mets team that is searching for answers. He has been a solid but not exceptional bullpen arm throughout his career and has a career 4.70 ERA.
