The Milwaukee Bucks have not made a move ahead of the NBA trade deadline yet, though they are rumored to be in deep discussions with several other teams regarding several different players. Of course, trade rumors have surrounded the Bucks since before the season even began, and they have only intensified as the year as gone on.
Early in the season, when Milwaukee was just 2-8 and had lost six games in a row at one point, these trade rumors centered on stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. Obviously, nothing came of these rumors and the Bucks have, generally, played better and won more.
However, it is clear that if they want to contend for another NBA Championship, they need to improve their roster. In order to do that, they will have to part ways with one or more of their more significant players: Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, and/or Brook Lopez. Veteran guard Pat Connaughton has also been the subject of many trade rumors over the last few days.
And while nothing has happened involving the Bucks as of yet, one of these players is being closely monitored by multiple teams.
The Golden State Warriors Apparently Have Interest in Milwaukee Bucks Forward Bobby Portis
One of the aforementioned players the Bucks have presumably made available, Portis, has not played in any of Milwaukee’s previous five games due to a personal issue. However, he is listed as probable for their Thursday night game against the Charlotte Hornets.
That game may be of interest for several reasons, not the least of which is that it could be Portis’ last in a Bucks uniform. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Golden State Warriors, and multiple other teams, are monitoring the perennial Sixth Man of the Year candidate ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline:
“Golden State still holds a level of interest in Vucevic, sources said, and Milwaukee Bucks big man Bobby Portis remains a player the Warriors, and other organizations, are monitoring.”
So far this season, Portis is averaging 13.4 points and 7.9 rebounds while shooting 47/36/82 from the field. His recent absence has exposed the Bucks in many ways, especially when it comes to rebounding. As the roster currently stands, they do not have a big man good enough to play quality minutes behind either Giannis and Lopez.
If Milwaukee were to trade Portis, they must get another big in return, preferably one who plays better defense.
