The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to be active in the market as the NBA trade deadline draws near, and the team has reportedly dangled MarJon Beauchamp as trade bait after they declined his team option last October.
Gabe Stoltz of SB Nation recently floated the idea of Trendon Watford being a potential trade candidate for the Milwaukee Bucks, as the Brooklyn Nets forward has almost the same salary as Beauchamp, with both players making roughly $2.7 million this season before hitting free agency next summer.
Milwaukee could get Watford by trading Beauchamp and a future second-round pick. If the Milwaukee Bucks make the move, they will also get Watford’s Bird Rights, making him eligible for an extension this offseason.
Trendon Watford averages 8.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists on 44.3 percent shooting from the field in 14 regular season appearances this season.
Trendon Watford’s potential fit with the Milwaukee Bucks
Trendon Watford can help the Milwaukee Bucks because of his ability to play different positions. The 24-year-old can play the two forward positions and even as a small-ball center. However, Milwaukee may not push through with this trade because of his health concerns.
“Watford’s positional flexibility would be welcomed as added depth, and his traits complement the perimeter play of all the Bucks shooters well. He doesn’t slot in like the other sharpshooters on the Bucks, but he has shown improvement through the years. If he’s able to keep his 3P% growing, it could pave more paths for Giannis to the hoop, thanks to spacing on the floor,” Stoltz wrote in his column.
“However, health is something to consider with Watford—he hasn’t seen much time this season. He missed the first six weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, then played 12 games before tweaking the same hamstring on December 16,” he added.
