Many business in Wisconsin got excited about the prospect of having a WNBA team in the state following the Milwaukee Bucks’ announcement that they will bid to have one.
They think there will be new businesses and more customers that will arrive if ever the Bucks ownership succeed in bringing one professional women’s basketball team which many believe is getting more exciting these days.
“People are interested in watching women’s basketball. It’s a little bit of the … ‘Caitlin Clark-effect,’ I think,” said Ryan Amundson of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce as quoted by Spectrum News.
All hopes for possible business boom were dashed after the team did not even submit a bid to the WNBA.
The interest was first floated in October last year.
“Our name is definitely in the hat,” said Fiserv Forum president Peter Feigin in an interview with the Milwaukee Business Journal.
“I don’t think we’re close (to a decision), but our name is in the hat.”
People behind the plan probably never moved forward.
What happened to the Milwaukee Bucks bid?
From high interest to never mind.
That’s what appears to be the development of the Milwaukee Bucks interest on a WNBA team.
The deadline for the submission for a bid was on January 30 but the planners did not get to that point.
An official even bared that they only reached the registration part.
“We went through the initial steps of registering our interest, but decided not to move forward with the next round of bidding,” Barry Baum, chief communications director for the Bucks, said in a statement.
Right now, there are three confirmed new ball clubs in the world’s top women’s basketball league. The Golden State Valkyrie will make their debut this 2025 season.
Toronto and Portland, both yet to announce a nickname for their clubs, will join by 2026.
