The Milwaukee Bucks won the 2024 NBA Cup after going undefeated throughout the in-season competition. Giannis Antetokounmpo played a huge role in the final win against the Oklahoma City Thunder last Tuesday, as the Greek Freak dropped a triple-double of 26 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists.
It was another day in the office for the one-time NBA MVP, but it shouldn’t have happened if the Oklahoma City Thunder exploited Antetokounmpo’s foul trouble early on. This drew the ire of Gilbert Arenas, who had strong words for the Oklahoma City coaching staff.
“All y’all new coaches, y’all stupid,” Arenas said about Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault. “When it comes to understanding the game, the gray area, you’re stupid because (Giannis Antetokounmpo) had three fouls at the top of the second quarter and he finished with three fouls.”
“(He’s) going to try and block every shot, he’s going to try and play defense, and you literally let him finish the game with three fouls…That’s where the education of basketball is not there,” the three-time NBA All-Star emphasized on his podcast.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo did most of his damage in the third period
Gilbert Arenas had a point about the Oklahoma City Thunder because Giannis Antetokounmpo spearheaded the Milwaukee Bucks’ charge in the third period to help them pull away. Milwaukee outscored Oklahoma City 26-14, and they never looked back from there. It also helped Milwaukee that Oklahoma City shot poorly from three-point land.
Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block during that fateful third period. The Greek Freak took a rest when there was less than two minutes left in the quarter when Milwaukee had a 10-point advantage.
