The Milwaukee Bucks became champions of the second annual NBA Cup after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 97-81 on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. It was the first major achievement for the Giannis Antetokounmpo-Damian Lillard partnership, and Antetokounmpo hopes this will not be the last.
During the awarding ceremony, the Greek Freak channeled his Mamba Mentality when he said that the “job is not done” since the Milwaukee Bucks are also gunning for the Larry O’Brien trophy this year.
“We’re getting better… we’re trusting one another… we’re gonna leave Vegas and be a better team… job is not done, we have a lot of basketball in front of us,” Antetokounmpo declared.
Giannis Antetokounmpo shone brightly in the NBA Cup final, as he recorded 26 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists, three blocks, and two steals on 10-for-19 shooting from the field across 37 minutes. Co-star Damian Lillard followed his lead by adding 23 points, four rebounds, four assists, and five three-pointers across 35 minutes.
Milwaukee Bucks got hot from three-point range
The Milwaukee Bucks caught fire from deep at the right time against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Doc Rivers-coached squad went 17-for-40 (42.5 percent) compared to Oklahoma City’s 5-for-32 shooting (15.6 percent). Milwaukee also edged Oklahoma City in the rebounds (52-43) and the assists (25-13) categories.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had one of his worst games of the season, as the Milwaukee Bucks threw different bodies at him. It worked, as the Oklahoma City Thunder guard only shot 8-for-24 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line en route to tallying 21 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 36 minutes.
The Milwaukee Bucks will now focus on the regular season since they have 57 games to play.
