There are few players in the history of the NBA that can match the career resume of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Just 30 years old, the Greek Freak is a nine-time All-Star, Most Improved Player of the Year winner, two-time NBA MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and NBA Champion. When the Bucks won their first NBA title in 50 years back in 2021, Giannis put up 50 points in the deciding Game Six and took home Finals MVP.
Indeed, the Pride of Milwaukee Basketball has accomplished just about everything an individual can accomplish in the NBA. Already one of the 75 greatest players of all time, he has nothing left to prove in regard to his individual greatness.
But that does not mean he is done chasing. Apart from individual awards and accolades, there is just one thing that keeps Giannis working hard to improve and play at a high level: winning another title.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Wants More NBA Championships

Giannis is having yet another historical season this year. He is averaging 30.2 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. In the history of the NBA, only one player has ever averaged 30 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists in a season: Bucks legend Oscar Robertson, who did so as a member of the Cincinnati Royal in 1961-62.
Despite his historical numbers over the past few years, the Greek Freak has been overshadowed in MVP voting. The same is true this year.
But that is not something that bothers him. Rather, he would rather focus on winning another title. He recently told Sam Amick of The Athletic:
“Listen, the MVP discussion is great. I’ve been in the MVP discussion, what, like the last seven years? Yeah, probably the last seven years — top three, top four, top three, top four. It’s good. It’s a great compliment. But at the end of the day, winning is a different feeling. I was able to live it once (with the 2021 title). Then I don’t know if people feel like it counts or it doesn’t count, or whatever it is, but winning is winning, so is the NBA Cup. It was like, wow, this feeling, man, it’s like — it’s better than intimacy (laughs).
“That’s the feeling I’m chasing (laughs). I’m not even going to lie to you. Like, All-NBA, all that stuff is great, but it’s winning. I want to win.”
Amick joked that he hoped Giannis’ wife, Mariah, does not read The Athletic. Antetokounmpo countered with news that Mariah is due to give birth to the couple’s fourth child any day now.
When asked who felt was the MVP this year, Giannis quipped, “My wife.”
Amick asked if that answer was an effort to make up for the “better than intimacy” comment, to which Giannis said, “Yes, I am.”
Joking aside, winning is as serious a business as there is for Giannis. He has said, over and over and over again, that he wants to spend his entire career in Milwaukee as long as the franchise is committed to winning.
Of course, he is smart and experienced enough to know that the Bucks will not and cannot win the title every year. However, what he wants is for the organization to remain steadfast in its efforts to put the best team possible on floor.
So far, the front office and ownership group have done that.
Hopefully, soon, it will pay off.
