Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night at home at Fiserv Forum. At 26-20, the Bucks are hoping to snap a two-game losing streak after getting blown out on the road against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday.
The Grizzlies, meanwhile, are 32-16, tied for the second-best record in the Western Conference. If Milwaukee is to win the game and break their losing streak, they will need a big game from their two-time NBA MVP, who has had plenty of great performances against Memphis in his career.
5. November 14, 2018: Bucks 113, Grizzlies 116
While a loss, this was still an exemplary game from Giannis early in the season in which he won his first MVP Award. The Greek Freak tallied 31 points, nine rebounds, four assists, a steal, and two blocks. He also was an impressive 11/12 from the free throw line.
Khris Middleton had 25 points, five rebounds, and three assists in the losing effort as well.
4. March 26, 2022: Bucks 102, Grizzlies 127
Another loss that one cannot really pin on Giannis and his performance. In what turned into a blowout victory for the Grizzlies, the Greek Freak had 30 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four blocked shots.
As a team, Milwaukee was just 7/32 from three. Middleton (16) and Brook Lopez (10) were the only other Bucks players to score double-digit points.
3. October 31, 2024: Bucks 99, Grizzlies 122
As one can see, Milwaukee has struggled against Memphis in recent seasons. This loss from earlier in the year was during the Bucks’ six-game losing streak that had many question whether or not Giannis wanted to stay in Milwaukee.
With Damian Lillard having a cold shooting night (1/12 from the field with only four points), Giannis put up 37 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block. Lopez (12) and Bobby Portis (11) were the only other Milwaukee players who scored in double figures.
2. February 15, 2024: Bucks 110, Grizzlies 113
Lillard was better in this contest with 24 points, but was only 3/13 from three. Giannis, for his part, stuffed the stat sheet with 35 points, four rebounds, and 12 assists.
Portis (15) and Lopez (14) were the only other Bucks players to have double-digit points.
As one can see, the Grizzlies clear plan for beating Milwaukee is to make Giannis’ supporting cast beat them, and it has worked more often than not.
1. January 19, 2022: Bucks 126, Grizzlies 114
This particular game saw five Bucks players score at a high pace, led by Giannis who had 33 points, 15 rebounds, seven rebounds, two steals, and a block.
Middleton had 27 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists while Portis had 14 points and 10 rebounds starting in place of Lopez. George Hill, starting in place of Jrue Holiday, had 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
For his career, Giannis has averages of 23.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. Since 2019, though, these numbers jump to 29.5 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game.
