The Milwaukee Bucks are 13-11 on the season after their woeful 2-8 start, which included a frustrating six-game losing streak. As bad as things seemed early, it is hard to deny the fact that the Bucks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA right now, having won eight of their last 10 games and 11 of their last 14.
Leading the charge for Milwaukee, on the peaks as well as in the valleys this season, has been superstar two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. The eight-time All-Star is averaging a league-best 32.7 points per game while also carrying averages of 11.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game.
As has been the case for years now, it does not seem like the national media is happy that such a prolific player has chosen the NBA’s smallest market for his home. Even before the six-game losing streak (but especially during it), analysts and talking heads wondered aloud when Giannis would demand a trade away from Milwaukee.
And the Greek Freak is tired of them.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Goes Off on ESPN
Giannis’ older brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, is not currently playing in the NBA because of a torn Achilles that he suffered during the offseason. He is, however, still doing his popular podcast, “Thanalysis,” in which he talks Bucks basketball, the NBA, and life.
In his most recent episode, Thanasis was surprised in the studio by Giannis himself, who joined the show to discuss the season thus far, his wedding in Greece this summer, and the NBA national media (specifically ESPN).
Towards the end of the show, Giannis went on a rant about how he and his wife were hounded by photographers in Greece after their wedding. These photographers became upset when the NBA superstar requested privacy as he was on his honeymoon.
He then went into talk about ESPN and national media members who constantly try to create a narrative that he does not want to play in Milwaukee anymore.
“I am so happy that we have someone [Thanasis] in our family who is a great spokesperson. That can set the record straight for me, for my mom, for my brothers, for my close friends, for my agents, for my team, for my organization, for my city, for my country, for everything.
“And also, I want you one day, Thanasis, to go to ‘First Take,'” which is a popular show on ESPN. “Go to ‘First Take,’ sit down at the table, (they love you over there), and I’m not kidding.
“I’m tired of walking into the facility and seeing ‘First Take’ on all of the TV’s, and they’re saying ‘blah, blah, blah.’ I’m tired of it.”
Giannis then went on to describe how he and the Bucks are talked about when they are winning, with high praise and admiration. But he also talked about what he hears from those analysts when Milwaukee loses.
“They suck! Get them out of here! Trade Giannis! He has blood on his hands and nobody wants him! He can’t shoot, he’s a bad teammate. Zero IQ.
“Guys, yesterday, I was the best player in the world.”
