Milwaukee Bucks news: Not too many people saw this coming. Most of us probably never imagined that we would see Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard play on the same team. Yet here we are.
As it turns out, these two superstars actually had a hunch that they would cross paths somewhere down the road. This all came to fruition this summer after the Bucks struck a blockbuster and truly landscape-shifting deal with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Damian Lillard Always Wanted to Play With Milwaukee Bucks Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo
In a recent interview with Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, both Lillard and Giannis were asked if they ever privately discussed the prospect of teaming up and if they thought it would ever become a reality.
Dame admitted that he’s always wanted to play with Antetokounmpo:
“A lot of times, we run into each other (during) All-Star Games and stuff like that, and I think that’s the kind of thing that gets me thinking when you get up close to dudes like, ‘Man, it would be crazy to play with this guy and that guy,'” Lillard said. “I always — it’s on record, saying if I had to play with one person, I would play with him. I think our style of play and who we are as people, I think it will mesh well.”
Giannis Also Envisioned Dame Partnership
Giannis echoed his new teammate’s thoughts. Antetokounmpo revealed that he too imagined what it would be like to have a point guard like Dame Lillard on his side:
“You always think in your head, ‘Oh man, I could fit well with this guy,'” Giannis said. “But now that he’s here, I’m happy that we’re teammates. I’m happy with what he brings to the table with the vision of this team. He elevates us to (a) different level.
“I’m excited. This is the best team I’ve been a part of. Having a guy like him, all-time great, it’s kinda, lace my shoes up and go out there and fight every single day and try to make something happen. We understand that in order for us to be successful, we have to work extremely hard. I think we’re both willing to do that.”
The time of dreaming is over. Lillard and Antetokounmpo’s wish to be on the same side has now become a reality. Right now, what they ought to start dreaming about is bringing that Larry O’Brien trophy back to Milwaukee.
