Just like everyone else, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounpo initially thought that the bombshell news that Shams Charania late Saturday night was “fake news.” And just like everyone else, the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player was left stunned when it dawned on him that the trade was real and that Luka Doncic was going to the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis was on his way to the Dallas Mavericks following a big trade.
“I thought it was fake news,” Antetokounmpo said following the Bucks’ 132-119 loss at home to the Memphis Grizzlies, per Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “It’s insane. Obviously, I’ve played against Luka a lot of times and AD and all the people that were included in the trade. This is the world we’re living in. It’s a business, you have to understand nobody’s safe, nobody’s safe.”
Antetekounpo also tried to give reason for the stunning trade involving fellow his fellow NBA superstars. The “Greek Freak” said that he understands such bold moves from a team perspective but also opined that players who ask for a trade should be viewed in the same prism for fairness’ sake.
“ I understand the business of basketball, that sometimes teams need to make the best moves that are good for their organization and for their position and for their own pursuit of greatness and championships. But at the same time, it goes both ways. You cannot have a double standard here.
When the teams make the best moves for them and they believe they can get another player to win now. when a player believes that he can go to a different team and he believes he can have a chance to win a championship, we cannot crucify the person and say that he’s not loyal and he didn’t do the right thing and he let everybody down. Because history has shown you, you have to do what is best for you and your family. You have to do what’s best/most important to win.”

Antetekounpo may or may have dropped a hint about his potential play for his future with the Bucks. Either way, many Milwaukee fans seem alarmed, believing that Antetokounpo will leave the team.
