The Milwaukee Bucks will go as far as where the veteran duo of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo takes them, but it’s also true that the two can’t do it all for the team.
There is still a lot of focus on what their supporting cast can do in the coming 2024-25 season, and one unheralded player head coach Doc Rivers seems to be high on is guard AJ Green.
Doc Rivers shares thoughts on unheralded Milwaukee Bucks player
Asked about the young players on the Bucks roster, Rivers said that the 25-year-old Green had a fantastic summer.
“I think we had a great summer overall. I think AJ Green had an amazing summer overall,” said Rivers, per Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “We saw him all summer. He was phenomenal.”
Last season, Green averaged just 4.5 points and 1.1 rebounds per game, but he was a bucket from deep, connecting on 40.8 percent of his attempts from behind on the arc on 1.2 tries per contest. Entering his third year in the league, Green could see a bigger role on the team.
Rivers also loved how the Bucks youngsters have tried to develop a connection with each other in the summer.
“But all our young guys, they put in some time, they put in some travel. They’ve been to Portland hanging out with Dame, they’ve been to Greece with Giannis, they went to Phoenix where Dame had a camp. They’ve been to L.A. for five days where they all worked out together with all of our guys. They’ve been a traveling team and they’ve all gone. And it’s been absolutely wonderful,” Rivers continued.
“We’ve been in town what three weeks now, all the guys, playing pickup games. A little bit of coaching but more pickup games. And the one thing I think everyone sees when they look around is holy crap there’s a lot of competition in this gym. And that is the great part from our standpoint. I think they all see it and I think it’s going to make camp really competitive.”
The Bucks are having their training camp in Irvine, California, determined to be as ready as possible for the upcoming 2024-25 season where they will look to regain their stats as a top-tier title contender after back-to-back first-round playoff exits.
