Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers spoke to the media before the game on Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies. On Saturday night, the NBA world was shocked when Luka Doncic was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers and everyone thought that Shams Charnia of ESPN was hacked and wasn’t.
Everyone reacted to the trade. Doc Rivers was asked about the trade and said to the media before the game:
“I thought it was AI generated.”
Those were interesting comments from the head coach. Obviously, with the trade deadline being on Thursday this week, there are Bucks fans who are hoping that general manager Jon Horst doesn’t trade Giannis Antetokounmpo after what happened on Saturday night with the Luka Doncic trade. Horst will have some crazy decisions to make anyway with the roster before then.
Milwaukee Bucks Head Coach Doc Rivers Just As Stunned As Everyone Else On the Luka Doncic Trade
Doc Rivers was just as stunned as everyone else about Luka Doncic being traded to the Lakers. Shai Gilgieous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder also commented about it and said:
“I learned that lesson the hard way in my first year in the NBA. I got traded out the blue. Didn’t see it coming. It doesn’t surprise me anymore than myself getting traded a long time ago. I found out it was a business my first season.”
He is correct that this is a business. However, the Dallas Mavericks gave Luka Doncic away for Anthony Davis and they should have received much more in return. Imagine if Doc Rivers has to go to the podium later this week and answer about Giannis Antetokounmpo being dealt to another NBA team, which probably won’t happen. This is going to have a ripple effect on the NBA down the road.
