Doc Rivers didn’t panic when the Milwaukee Bucks started the 2024-25 NBA campaign with only two wins and eight losses in their first 10 games since he felt it was only a matter of time to where they could turn things around. He proved correct since his team recently won the second-ever NBA Cup, and they now have a 14-11 record.
Their NBA Cup triumph last Tuesday has to feel good for Rivers, and he credited his players for their latest achievement. The one-time NBA Coach of the Year winner also gave a special mention to Giannis Antetokounmpo during the postgame press conference.
“I mean, a 10, right? That opportunity to coach a Giannis, to coach a (Damian Lillard), to see that group, a veteran group, it’s an amazing opportunity for a coach,” Rivers explained via ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel.
“This group allows you to coach them, they really do. They let you coach them hard. Nobody takes anything personal. I even said it last year, it was like coaching grownups if you know what I mean. They really get that. They get that you have to tell them the truth and they handle it, and that’s been great,” he added.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Doc Rivers is nominated for Basketball Hall of Fame
It was recently announced that Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers is nominated for the Basketball Hall of Fame for the first time. The reigning NBA Cup champion mentor is one of the top nominees alongside Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Marc Gasol, Amar’e Stoudemire, Sue Bird, and Maya Moore.
Rivers has been a coach in the NBA for 26 seasons. Before taking the Milwaukee Bucks job, he coached the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers.
Before venturing into coaching, Doc Rivers played in the NBA for 13 seasons and was an All-Star in 1988.
