Dame Time did not happen in Milwaukee Bucks’ loss to the Houston Rockets and fans are blaming Brook Lopez for taking the shot with 20 seconds left in the shot clock.
Was it an ill-advised shot? The consensus on X is that the Splash Mountain should have not been the man to take what could have been the game-tying field goal.
There were 28 seconds left in the game and he was closer to the mid-court logo than to the arc.
Doc Rivers feels the same. He thinks there was a shot that is of higher quality there.
“The Brook three, he just ran too far out of place. We told him. We knew that if Giannis rolls, either Giannis is going to get a quick dunk or Brook’s going to get a three, but Brook kind of found himself out of the area. Probably shouldn’t have taken that one,” Rivers said according to Bucks beat writer Eric Nehm.
The ball could have been passed around more for a higher percentage shot.
Some fans thought he could have dropped it to Giannis Antetokounmpo who was freed after his man Alperen Sengun chased Lopez.
The Rockets did not score in the next play and they had another chance to tie the game. Lillard finally got the ball. He was fouled from the 3-point line but the officials ruled that he was not in shooting motion yet.
Game over, 97-100. Bucks’ four-game winning streak ends.
Brook Lopez defends shot choice
Lopez is a good three-point shooter but the timing of his shot is suspect.
Many fans think he could have given it to Lillard.
Lopez for his part does not think it was a bad shot.
“Dame obviously draws so much attention. And I got it and the look felt great honestly. It felt great. I was very happy with the look,” he said.
“Maybe it was a little deep, but in the moment, I was there, it felt good to me.”
