Can the Milwaukee Bucks accommodate another guard defender? If yes, Bruce Brown Jr. might be available.
Brown Jr., part of the Denver Nuggets that won the 2023 title, is still recovering from injury but his current team Toronto Raptors has made available for trade.
The 6’4 guard is yet to play a game this season as he is still rehabbing his knee which was subjected to a surgery in September this year.
Brown is known for his 3-point shooting and athleticism as a designated defender of the opponents’ scoring guards.
Matt Levine of Sports Illustrated proposed that the Bucks should trade for him. However, the Wisconsin team will pay a high cost for it – their long-time center Brook Lopez.
The writer said:
Brown, 28, is currently languishing on the 7-23 Toronto Raptors. He’s on an expiring $23 million deal for the season. Lopez, who turns 37 in April, is making the same exact salary, making for an optimal one-to-one trade for the capped-out Bucks.
It would be a hard decision for the Bucks to take this trade proposal if it will involve Lopez who has been the anchor of their defense in half a decade now.
Another thing, the Bucks don’t appear to be that desperate anymore after turning things around, including winning the NBA Cup.
Bruce Brown first got linked to Milwaukee Bucks in July
The first time Brown got linked to the Bucks was in July this year after NBA insider Kevin O’Connor described him as a great fit for Milwaukee who was then trying to have a more versatile style of defense.
Like Levine, Lopez will be the casualty.
Trading Brook Lopez for Brown is a perfect match of salaries, and then the Raptors could flip Lopez elsewhere. The amount of screening and cutting Brown could do in support of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard would be glorious to watch.
Right now, there is no expressed interest from the Bucks.
But they are indeed interested, they must make a move as Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, and his former team Nuggets are also interested.
