In the Milwaukee Bucks’ 125-112 loss to the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday, Khris Middleton laid his second goose egg in three games. He played 15 minutes, missed his only two shots and committed 3 fouls. In between those two clunkers, he poured in a season-high 22 on 10-13 shooting Monday against Utah, the first of a road back-to-back.
To put it lightly, the Khris Middleton experience has been an exhausting one for Bucks fans this season. Overreacting on a nightly basis has become a morbid ritual. While it isn’t fair to hold him to the standard of his former, healthy self, his performance this season has left something to be desired.

One fan went a little further.

Admittedly, some speculated pre-game that Middleton might sit out after logging 27 minutes less than 24 hours before. Missing Bobby Portis, however, the Bucks’ second unit already lacked scoring depth. As it turned out, Middleton was not able to provide that.
Speaking after the Utah win, Doc Rivers preached a patient approach, saying that he isn’t “worried” about the forward gaining his rhythm. Give him time. His 22-point performance that night was “just one game.”
If anything, Middleton’s encore reinforced Rivers’ message. Anyone overly encouraged by Monday’s game can testify on Coach’s point about game-to-game variance.
It is also true that a team hunting a title doesn’t have the luxury of extending a wait-and-see approach to season’s end. After an efficient five games in his first six off the bench, his 0, 22 and 0 points over the last three have not continued that trend. (Game log here.)
Whether or not to trade Middleton isn’t something to predicate on the last few games–of course not. No doubt the ups and downs have been hardest of all on Middleton himself. But the roller coast ride is frustrating, plain and simple.
All in Favor Say Aye
The deadline fate of the 12th-year Buck remains uncertain, but at least a few fans are already prepping his eulogy.

If he does indeed end up elsewhere after the Feb. 6 cutoff, it will be a disappointing but overdue conclusion to his time in Milwaukee. It isn’t about his game versus Portland. Last night doesn’t change anything; it simply highlights the version of Khash Money Khris the Bucks are more likely to get these days than the one who helped Giannis to his first chip.
All jokes aside, it’s time to move on.
It’s been that way.
Seriously.
