Much has been said about how the Milwaukee Brewers are competitive this new season and a lot of it has to do with its young core who had career seasons last year.
This is why they were appropriately ranked by Yahoo! Sports as the sixth best young core in its MLB 26-and-Under Power Ranking.
The ones who got the highest score in the rankings are the hitters who received a 9/10 scoreline. The hitters are composed of outfielders Jackson Chourio, Sal Frelick, and Garrett Mitchell, shortstop Joey Ortiz, second baseman Brice Turang, and infielders Caleb Durbin, INF Tyler Black.
The publication said the position could have scored a 10/10.
Chourio leads the charge for one of our highest ranked groups of young MLB hitters — a unit that would’ve scored a perfect 10 if catcher William Contreras hadn’t turned 27 this past December. But even excluding their star backstop, this is an enviable collection of position players, many of whom contributed to Milwaukee’s surprise division title in 2024.
Other Milwaukee Brewers young guns to watch out for
Chourio and Ortiz are probably the biggest names on the ranking due to their performances last season.
They are expected to be featured in prominent roles this 2025. The 20-year-old Chourio turned heads last postseason, even becoming only the second player under 21 years old to hit two home runs in one playoff game.
As for Ortiz, he is expected to have bigger responsibility not just because he earned it but also because of the departure of Willy Adames.
Other young Brewers to watch out for according to Yahoo! Sports are found in the pitching department prospects.
Tobias Myers, Abner Uribe, Robert Gasser, and DL Hall are all expected to be good this 2025.
Young prospects among hitters – C Jeferson Quero, 3B Mike Boeve, 3B Brock Wilken, 3B Luke Adams, 1B Ernesto Martinez – are also anticipated to excel.
