The Milwaukee Brewers seem to be keen on trading Devin Williams when his value is high. Williams had limited pitching last season due to his injury. The Brewers were unable to make the best use of their star pitcher, but they are all set to place him on the trading block.
Williams might not have pitched much last season, but he had one of the best seasons in 2023. The start pitcher recorded a stellar 1.53 ERA and finished with an 8-3 record. Williams had 87 strikeouts in just 58.2 innings pitched. Several teams will jump at the opportunity to sign Williams.
While his demand is expected to grow, the latest buzz is that the New York Yankees have shown interest in Williams. The Yanks have plenty on their plate and their top-most priority is to sign Juan Soto. The Yanks have a decent offense and adding Soto will top it all. Yet, they have enough room to improve their bullpen.
Milwaukee Brewers Could Make The Best Out Of Williams With The Yankees
The Milwaukee Brewers could make the best out of Williams if they negotiate a deal with the Yankees. The Yankees have several relieves set to hit the market. Clay Holmes’ future with the team is questionable. On the other hand, Tommy Kahnle and Tim Hill are also questionable.
The Yankees moved Marcus Stroman to their bullpen, but his future seems doubtful like the others. That said, they need some extra firepower to bolster their relievers. Williams will be a perfect fit, and the Milwaukee Brewers can use this to their advantage.
The Brewers have played their cards well in the past, especially when it comes to striking deals with players. Trading Williams before he hits the free-agent market, will give them the edge. Williams is expected to earn nearly $8 million in his final year of arbitration.
With the Yankees in need of closers, the Brewers could strike a hard bargain with Williams. The Yanks will not hesitate if the price is right. However, all these moves are expected to take place after Soto settles for a deal.
If the Yanks fail to sign Soto, they might go all out to get more players, and Williams is expected to be on the list. Moreover, it’s going to be a win-win situation for the Brew Crew. With multiple teams in line for Williams, the Milwaukee Brewers will get what they want.
