The Milwaukee Brewers 2017 draft consisted of players such as Keston Hiura (round one), Tristen Lutz (competitive balance), Bowden Francis (round seven), Alec Bettinger (round 10), Je’Von Ward (round 12), Cam Robinson (round 23), and others. Currently none of those players are on the big league roster with the Crew and one of their top picks was just released.

Milwaukee Brewers former 34th overall pick Tristen Lutz has been released.
Outfielder Tristen Lutz was selected 34th overall by the Brewers in the competitive balance round. Milwaukee went over slot to take him out of Martin High School (Texas) in which he was paid $2,352,000. Six years after being drafted he has been released by the organization.
Over the past three seasons Tristen Lutz has been playing at the Double-A level. Injuries and the missed 2020 season hampered him but overall this once promising draft selection was unable to fully get it going in the minor leagues. His career minor league statistics include 1674 at-bats, a .250/.335/.425 slash line with a .760 OPS, 60 home runs, 257 RBI, and 18 stolen bases.
The Brewers releasing Tristen Lutz, who as mentioned was high draft selection, is a good reminder that it is extremely difficult to make it to the big leagues. Baseball is a humbling game, requires perseverance, and mental plus physical toughness.
At 24 years old it will be interesting to see if he elects to continue his playing career in a different organization, overseas, or decides to go in a different direction.
