The Milwaukee Brewers, despite making just one major trade that saw Devin Williams head to New York and Nestor Cortes plus Caleb Durbin join the Brew Crew, have kept busy with several under the radar acquisitions this off-season. Most recently, RHP Grant Anderson was acquired via trade with the Texas Rangers. In order to make room for him on the 40-man roster a corresponding roster move had to be made.

Last July, the Brewers sent RHP TJ Shook to the New York Mets in exchange for reliever Tyler Jay. The southpaw went on to make two appearances for Milwaukee in which he pitched three scoreless innings. Now the former 2015 first round pick (sixth overall), has found a new home as he was claimed on waivers.
The Seattle Mariners have claimed Tyler Jay
2024 marked Tyler Jay’s first outings in the big leagues. His sample size was limited to just 7.2 innings, but in Triple-A he had success. Across two different minor league affiliates, Jay finished the minor league season last year with a 3.02 ERA across 56.2 innings.
Why did the Milwaukee Brewers give up on Tyler Jay so quickly?
It’s hard to say exactly why Milwaukee gave up on Tyler Jay so quickly, despite giving up a nice pitching prospect in order to acquire him last July. While his fastball is not all that overpowering, in a small sample size his sweeper showed potential as a high swing and miss pitch. It’s possible that the Brewers just felt comfortable with their group of left-handed pitchers on the 40-man roster and felt that adding a side arming right-hander was more beneficial to their roster construction.
