The Milwaukee Brewers reached 70 wins in historic fashion Wednesday night against the Atlanta Braves, as they set a new single-season franchise record for fewest games needed to hit the plateau.
The Brewers, who won, 5-4, did not go lightly against Braves starter Spencer Strider, who was pounded for seven extra-base hits in 4 2/3 innings of mound duty. He allowed five earned runs and a walk, and while he had six strikeouts, he gave up 11 hits, the most of his career in MLB.
Via David O’Brien of The Athletic:
#Braves’ Strider allowed a career-high 11 hits (previous high 9) and 5 runs in 4 2/3 innings of 5-4 loss to the Brewers, who swept the series and dropped Atlanta to 47-66, fourth-worst record in MLB. Braves are 9 games behind Marlins, who arrive Friday for a 5-game, 4-day series.

Milwaukee Brewers pitching is getting it done

Conversely, the Brewers’ pitching staff is doing an admirable job. Since the start of the second half of the season, Milwaukee has the fifth-best ERA with 3.41 and ninth overall in the big leagues with a 1.17 WHIP.
In the series finale versus the Braves, Jose Quintana allowed just three earned runs on seen hits with seven strikeouts through six innings of work, while three relievers combined for one-run ball in the final three innings of the contest.
The Brewers’ offense is also consistently providing the pitchers with a great cushion. Milwaukee pitchers are third in MLB in terms of run support per 27 outs (4.9) while their starters are getting 5.52 runs per nine innings behind them.
